Even before this fire, the PCT was closed from South Boundary Road (the
rim south of Hauser Canyon) to Boulder Oaks Campground. From a practical
sense because of access, this means Highway 94 to Boulder Oaks.

Sources:

PCTA Trail Conditions website 9/8/07:
The PCT is closed from South Boundary Rd to Boulder Oaks Campground by the
Cleveland National Forest due to potential fire hazard. Hikers will have
to follow roads in the area to reach the border.

Cleveland National Forest 9/5/07:
Effective Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at 6:00 p.m., the Forest will move
the forest use restriction level from VERY HIGH to EXTREME to protect the
public and natural resources from the threat of wildfire. ... Changes the
public should be aware of in moving to EXTREME include: ... the Descanso
Ranger District will close all National Forest land south of Interstate 8,
as well as Pine Mountain Road, and Fred Canyon Road, north of Interstate
8; ...
In addition, the Forest Service ask that all forest visitors continue
their usual fire safety precautions: smoking only in enclosed vehicles and
developed recreation sites and making sure cigarette butts are completely
extinguished; keeping matches and smoking materials away from children;
and reporting fires by calling '911'.
