Much of this relies upon hitchiking. That is something I haven't
done, being a woman and all that. I'm traveling alone, too. I hope
I'll meet nice people on my hike so I don't have to hitchike alone,
but I'm planning for the possibility that I spend the entire time
alone. Any solo women hiker veterans willing to share information
about hitchiking?

Due to overwhelming pressure by a hiker who will go unnamed (Bill B., aka,
pink gumby) you can now embed your YouTube video into your journal pages at
Postholer.Com.

Postholer is loaded with features, far more than any other blog or hiker
journal site. You can update by email, display entry's on our highly custom
google trail maps, download your journals, blah, blah, etc. It just has tons
of features!

Here's the thing....we want it to be the most awesome hiker site around. WE
NEED to hear your suggstions, your wish lists. Just tell us what you want! I
won't garuntee every suggestion will be implemented, but you can bet the
ranch it will be seriously considered.
Tell us about it in the journal support forum:
http://postholer.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=12

More than you want to know section:
The entire back end was recently re-written in an object oriented
fashion.....it is blazing fast. Development was all done over DIAL-UP (56K
modem) the slowest common denominator. We're making asthetic changes to the
front-end as we speak.

Who is 'we'? Postholer, aka, Stillroaming (stillwhining), aka K. Scott
Parks. This site is the work of one very focused person. A FREE site for the
community, by the community. My hiking knowledge originates from many folks
(and resources such as the PCT-L). They didn't charge a fee for their best
info, so why would I? This is my motivation.

While intellectually I can accept that thru-hikers come to take hitchhiking
for granted --- I've nevertheless planned my trip so that I should only
*have* to hitchhike once (or rather, twice if counting both to town and then
back to the trail). I might well end up hitching more, but I feel more
comfortable having it as an *option*.

I did that, and I only realized how much it REALLY helped when I had
to find my own box at Kennedy Meadows among the hundreds that were
there. 95 was a heavy snow year, and with so many people quitting,
whatever organization the boxes had been in was totally destroyed.

And I put the markings on all 6 sides of the box, and I'm glad I did.
I think Monty's spray paint idea sounds best. Easiest to see from a
distance.

Do you have a spell-checker for journal entry's?

Yup, I definitely did put my personal mark on all 6 sides, but for that I've
got a rubber stamp, much easier.

My thanks to all who so quickly replied.

So...I am not sure what sort of camera you are using but I know that the
40d, 5d, and several others all have the battery grips which allow you to
extend your cameras battery life by using two of the proprietary
batters...or 6 AA batteries. In which case you can be way more flexible in
your power sources. I am going through this decision making process too.
This is my current plan.
