I think anyone who thinks they can thru-hike and live off the land is  
not understanding what a thru-hiker is. A thru-hiker is a nomad, and  
nomads typically herd animals. Their food moves with them.  
Unfortunately, our food doesn't walk so that's why we have to carry  
food on our backs.
