Kerry,
You have a point, everybody has a right to disagree.
There is a difference, however, between disagreeing and grumbling and criticizing.
No hiker deserves his hike to be criticized by other hikers.
Just like there being more than one opinion there are more ways than one to hike the trail.
It has been my observation that every time a hiker like Scott, Joe, Brian or Michael goes on a
speed hike it evokes a lot of criticism from a certain segment on this list who can not
understand why anybody in his right mind would want to speed through a pristine wilderness and
how they can not possibly enjoy their hike.
In my mind they are hypocrites for thinking their way of hiking is the only proper way to hike
and enjoy the trail.
They embrace the HYOH principle but only if it's based on their own hiking criteria.

Other hikers have hiked through trail closures, but the ones that get slammed and criticized are
the speed hikers because their speed hiking is frowned upon by those certain elements....you can
slam me if you want to....but if you slam my buddies, I will speak up.
That is the only reason Scott and Joe have been singled out for criticism.

STILL SEEMS LIKE SOUR GRAPES TO ME.....you know, short ones envy tall ones.....slow ones envy
fast ones.

JMT Reinhold
Your slow, short trail companion.

rheinhold, you are a backbone of this list. But it is wrong to call people
who disagree with you "grumblers." Nobody comes down on you for being the
Scott and joe marching and chowder society. Sour grapes are not involved.
Individuality is. There is always more than one opinion, yours (or mine) is
certainly not always correct.
           Kerry,

>/ Joe has wrenched his knee, but they are still getting their miles and
/>/ plan on reaching Stevens Pass Wednesday (tomorrow) between 4-6 PM and
/>/ the monument the evening of August 18 around 8 PM.
/>/ For those still grumbling about them hiking through a fire closure be
/>/ reminded that they encountered fire fighters and Rangers
/>/ in the closed area, were not issued any citations but were given the OK
/>/ and blessings to continue.
/>/ If the authorities gave their OK and blessings to continue they must
/>/ have felt the conditions were safe enough to do so.
/>/ The authorities have the last word and they have spoken......so what is
/>/ the problem?
/>/ Could the problem be sour grapes?
/>/ I say swallow those sour grapes and join Andrea's party tomorrow at
/>/ Stevens Pass or join them at the Monument on the 18th
/>/ to congratulate them for their tremendous achievement.
