I've found that it's easy to create a message filter for people whose 
posts I don't read because of negative tones or flaming.  Posts from 
three or four people go straight to the trash box and I only hear about 
the flame wars when new people jump in.  I found it surprising, but it 
only took filters for a couple people to reduce my exposure to 
negativity and flaming 80%.
