That would be a section hike.  Hiking a trail in sections over more than one hiking season. 

 In general, a thru-hike means the act of walking the length of a trail in one season.


Having said that...the hike still counts as  wonderful and rewarding experience no matter how its done!

Does not matter if you are out for a day or a year. To quote John Muir:

“Climb the mountains and get their
good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into
trees.
 The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms
their energy, while cares will drop off like falling leaves."  

Notice he did not say how long you have to be out for in this quote.. :)
