Actually the markup on gear is WAY more than 20%, I know b/c I work in a store that sells gear. So yeh if ur gonna buy it, then buy local so these huge commercial companies don't get all the profit.

In my view a 20% discount at REI just gets the price back to normal. That 
has to be the most overpriced gear store of all even with the membership.
Buy local.
