Sounds good. We need to get the list moderator involved. He should be in charge.
He could list a topic and we could submit entries to him to be edited or rejeted
for the FAQ letter. Several topics have differing pionts of view.

I agree with you.  It's amazing that people even find their way here to the mail list; a surprising low percentage of hikers manage to find this resource community.
So, I propose the following to everyone reading this thread and to the list moderators/administrators.  It involves the creation of a PCT-L welcome letter for new folks to the list summarizing the resources available, such as the one PITA posted earlier.  To make it easy, it could be automated for new registrants.  Hopefully, that  would direct folks to the source sites we're repeating, well, repeatedly.   This same information could be cross-maintained at other sites.
Thoughts?

Yes, but how long does it take for a new user to the PCT-L to find out about pcta.org?
Or the postholer web site?
How many times have we answered the same questions?
I remember getting yelled at for asking about how to determine the best time to start.
And I'm still trying to figure it out.  :)
It would be nice if the mail server would send out a FAQ that answers the top ten
questions when you sign up. It could even include a link or two.

There are FAQs . . . check out www.pcta.org/about_trail/faqs.asp

As mentioned by others, they undoubtedly need to be updated.
