Since I wear a hiking kilt that has no pockets while hiking, I use a 
fanny pack as a sporran.  Someone on the list recommended this one last

It's only 150 cu in, but it held my camera, swiss army knife, Spot 
Messenger, MP3 player, sun screen, and chapstick.  There was room for 
the current map and guidebook pages in the separate pocket on the front.

It was great having the camera right there.
