[pct-l] Hiker Preparedness

Good afternoon,

A few years ago I was on the PCT approaching Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood
when I encountered a day-hiker with his fashionable little pack.  He stopped
me and pointed ahead and asked, "Can you tell me where this trail goes?".  I
replied, "Canada."

He then turned around and motioned back down the trail and asked, "Then were
does that trail go?" to which I replied, "Mexico."

He looked a little confused and said, "Well....I was looking for the
Half-Mile Loop."   I pointed him to the first trail that goes directly back
to the lodge.
