[pct-l] Bear Canister "required" areas on PCT in the Sierra...

In the hunter, gatherer sense man has always 'affected the balance'. Man has
been removed from the natural process completely and replaced by 'policy' in
some areas. Choose the human intervention that suits you best...

The current, popular policy says, "bears and people will coexist without
conflcit in the same 1000 square foot area." Time will test this cartoonish,
un-natural concept; especially with the continuing commercialization of
National Parks.

More civilization, less wild life. More wild life, less civilization. Do the
math, you can't have it both ways.

Bear canisters are not even remotely the answer.

Northern Califonia has solved it's bear problem. Bears are wary of humans,
as it should be in the natural order. The local population is pressing for
hunting permits during 'Tourist Season'. In the mean time, even the bears
know to run from a lumbering RV with a geriatric driver behind the wheel.

...Although bears are hunted throughout California, the stats indicate that
most are in northern California rather than the Sierra Nevada.

Btw, Wandering Bob usually makes lots of sense, but I had to scratch my head
about his suggestion that the way to solve the problem of "man [trying] to
fool around with that natural balance" is for man to fool around even more
by "immediately start[ing] a massive reduction" of the bear population.
