Also, with the dates you mentioned (May1 - mid-August) you'd likely need to 
do some skipping around to hit the Sierra when it's hikable.  A northbound 
thru at the required pace would put you at Kennedy Meadows in late May. 
Some years you can start the Sierra that early, some you can't (depending on 
your snow travel experience).  May1 is probably too early for a southbound. 
I'd guess skipping around would slow your overall pace, too.

If you've got a few weeks in other parts of the year, maybe you could shoot 
for a section-hike-in-a-year kinda' thing, but if at all possible, Mags' 
suggestion of another 20-30 days would be ideal.
