This guy is amazing. I still recall when he passed by me south of Lake
Tahoe. He was flying low!

An interesting memory from 2006.... During a short re-supply stop in Sierra
City, a group of us were checking out the hiker boxes and found a Go-Lite
Thong (underwear). Checking out this piece of gear we noticed on the tag,
the name "A. Skurka" penned with a Sharpie.

Wow, I knew this guy was ultra-light and was sponsored by Go-Lite, but this
seemed to be taking it to the extreme! But, as everyone says, HYOH.

Just wanted to give you all a heads-up about Andy Skurka’s presentation at
the Los Angeles Times Travel Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center.
He’ll be presenting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9th.

For those unfamiliar with Andy, he recently completed the “Great Western
Loop,” a 6,875 mile trek in 208 days. He’s the first person to ever
accomplish this feat, but that’s no surprise, in July 2005 he concluded
another monumental first: hiking the 7,778-mile Sea-to-Sea Route, a
transcontinental network of hiking trails from Quebec to Washington, which
he completed in 11 months. Andy has also completed the 1,700-mile California
section of the Pacific Crest Trail (in 44 days), the 480-mile Colorado Trail
(twice), the 2,170-mile Appalachian Trail (in 95 days), and a 385-mile trek
through northern Minne sota in January.

Andy knows a thing or two about long-distance hiking and lightening your
load. It’s no wonder that National Geographic Adventurer honored Andy with
the title of “Adventurer of the Year” for 2007.
