[pct-l] bugs & netting

I'm a weekend back packer who has completed Southern California and will be doing some longer backpacking trips this year including the JMT.  I use an open tarp most of the time but am concerned about the bugs.  Could someone who has hiked the trail tell me where they are?  I am guessing that it would be by the lakes in the High Searias, perhaps along the JMT.  Is that right?  Can I just by a large net an toss it over my tarp and stake down the ends?
