[pct-l] bear cannister?

I can't agree more strongly!! I HATED carrying the bear cannister, it felt huge and clumsy and it was in the way of my 'packing' every day. I know it didn't add that much to my overall weight, but I groused about it<smile>!! But I wouldn't have not carried it and I did it because the thought that I
could be even partially responsible for the death of a bear. . . not one I could live with.

I was lucky enough to get to participate in the Bear Cannister Loan Program, it was great and I was very happy to get use it. And I was extremely happy to jettison it back to L-Rod, who was the caretaker of them for us.

They aren't that big a deal, just an adjustment for awhile, it's a few short days in the scheme of things.

Please, please, please carry a bear can.
It’s not for you, it’s to save the bears from being shot because they get
habituated to taking food from people. Contact Jim Payne (enyapjr at comcast.net) about the free bear
canister loaner program.

is there any up to date info on
this subject, is it an "absolute must or get fined ",
any "07" hikers out there that didn't carry one? i'm not looking
forward to buying / carrying one, but if i have to "dodge" rangers
because i don't have one i'll buy one. if you did carry one what kind was it?

thanks for your help.
