[pct-l] bear cannister?

Granted, it's an extra 2.5 lbs of gear no one wants to carry, but as you
said, the life you save could be your own, as well as the local
population of bears in the woods. I myself wouldn't want to be
responsible for the demise of wildlife, just because I was too stubborn
or thick headed to carry a bear cannister.

I purchased a BearVault 400 for my thru hike, and so it's brand new in
the box. I won't be using mine until 2009 as it stands now. Just haven't
decided yet if I want to loan it out as it sits brand new yet or not, or
if I want to be the first to use it and THEN loan it out on the loaner
program. For those who may not know, the Bear Vault is the lightest hard
side one,(2lbs 9 oz) and it's the clear one that can be used as a camp
seat. Granted, carrying a bear cannister is a nuisance, but I wouldn't
think of NOT carrying one through the Sierras and wherever else it's
deemed necessary or strongly suggested. I personally have no desire to
wake up to a bear helping himself to my food.
