I learned from a poster last year that it’s also important that
biodegradable soaps be rinsed over SOIL, not rock or plants.  It takes some
time for the soap to break down (months), so if it’s goes directly onto
plants, it could affect them.  If it’s over rock, it does not break down
effectively, and can wash out to water sources.

Or wet bandana, that you can rinse out daily in a stream, away from areas
folks will be gettting water.
 
 
Please, Please Please, if you use soap in any way, even if it's
"biodegradable", use it at least 150 to 200 feet away from any running
water, or pooled water. Biodegradable soaps are still bad for the water.
Period.
