[pct-l] one person's lame, another person's... (+ more topics!)

I almost quoted that line, but you have done it more justice. But my
favorite line has to do with the exchange between Roni and Squatch regarding
names. Too hilarious.

In the video, do you recall that moment when hikers were crinkling bags of
chips and, as if to delightfully underscore the above, Roni leaned forward
with a gleam in his eye and said, "You can't out-crinkle an Israeli!" Big
laugh from all present.

I don't know if either of you have met Roni, or at least seem him in "Walk"
(Squatch's first PCT video). He is one of the most delightfully endearing
and deliberately provocative people you'll ever meet. I'm guessing you
haven't been introduced to his ways, because if you had, you would know it's
pointless to argue (TIC). Or, perhaps more correctly, argument is the
point.

I agree with Mark - Roni's first two complaints about couples and big
budgets aren't really about lameness, they're about a lack of kindred
spirits for Roni, to which I say HYOH.

Roni's third complaint, about an increased sense of entitlement, is a real
one, though. It ultimately affects us all, because every time a thru-hiker
interacts with people and communities along the trail they're creating
impressions and opinions that will directly impact the experiences of
everyone following after them. Is a false sense of entitlement aggravated
by big hiking budgets? Well, maybe indirectly, though it's certainly far
from always the case. Is it aggravated by the presence of so much
"scheduled" trail magic these days, like Scott (postholer) said? I think
that's more likely. Does that mean we should all stop angeling? I dunno.
