[pct-l] other mountains?

The Cascade volcanoes are, for the most part, true technical climbs, not peak-bagging material. People die every year climbing on these peaks.

OREGON & WA: heading north you'll be near or on the following:

1. Mt Thielsen - "the lightning rod of the Cascades"; an easy non-technical climb IF the weather is clear. Could be suicidal if there's any chance of lightning.

2. South Sister - an easy walk-up the south side, but a real cinder-slog loaded with tourists

3. Middle Sister - technical climb; lots of rotten rock; pros only

4. North Sister - ditto

5. Mt Jefferson - a technical climb; last 2-300 feet is nearly vertical to reach the summit

6. Mt Hood - a technical climb, and far too dangerous by the time you get there. Rotten rock must be frozen solid to climb safely. Most climbing ends by late May.

7. Mt Adams: status unknown

8. Mt Rainier: quite a ways off trail; climbing permit required; multi0day technical climb.

  Hello everyone....

is it feasible to bag some peaks like: Adams, Hood, Ranier, Shasta, etc... are some of these close to the trail like Whitney? are they generally hike-able, i.e. walk-ups? i think it would be a shame to miss out on some famous peaks if one is already in the area after having strolled up the western flank of the country... and several of those seem to "stand alone" or are at least massive compared to the surrounding landscape....

I gave notice at my job, and then told them about the trail. i got some good looks from people...

  go patriots.
