I use lycra padded bicycling gloves while hiking. They protect my hands from the sun, heat, falls, and dryness, while keeping the fingers free. They are also a nice warmth in cold camps or at night. ~~~~~~~~~~^~^~^~^ One more question...What are low cost options for protecting hands (other than sunscreen)? Kris
