That used to be the case, but Yosemite changed the regulations a couple of 
times since then. Starting in 2008 you need to carry a bear canister thru 
Yosemite National Park. That really means you need to carry it to Sonora 
Pass before you can get rid of it.

So, correct me if I'm wrong.... but it sounds like if I carry a bear can
between (and only between) kennedy meadows and toulumne meadows... I should
be okay.  Right?

And btw... thank you all for the info and great resources.  It has been a
tremendous help!
