[pct-l] Bear Can Rule of Thumb

I am hiking HWY 80 to Sierra City (section L) this weekend. One guide book I have says to use
a Bear can. It's not required so far as I can tell. Ya -  what do they veterans say?

So, from Kennedy Meadows to Lake Tahoe ought to be good?   I thinks that's a
good rule of thumb.  How does that sound to the veterans?
