Hikers,

There's been a lot of hype about snow on the PCT in Oregon right now. I just finished hiking the 1st half of Oregon with P.O.D. and Hearsay and what I can tell you is that most of that talk is just hype. There are small patches of snow here and there. Heading north out of Summit Lake we encountered a couple of miles of snow around 7,000 feet but it was easily navigated.

Bottom line is that if you're a thru-hiker and you have already come thru the Sierra this year, you are not going to have much trouble with any of the minimal snow in the 1st half of Oregon. The main problem is the mosquitoes. They have been intense and ready to feed. BRING DEET and bring lots of it. It's no joke right now.

We have heard more hype about the snow heading north out of Elk Lake. We've heard that the trail is closed for the season except to thru-hikers. We have heard that the PCT is impassible. We have heard that McKenzie Pass is closed to traffic for the season. Who knows? I'll give you a report when and if we make it thru. Wish us luck.

Best, Disco
