Quick question...I am currently planning the caloric intake for my hike from
tolumne meadows to ashland. On average we are doing 10 hours and 16 miles
per day, we are 190 and 220 lbs., pack weight at about 30 lbs.. I am
considering 4000 calories per day, but my references are from thru hikers
who tramp 25+ miles per day whose 4000 calorie per day intake seems a little
more reasonable for the amount of hiking done. What are some of the calorie
intakes of all you guys out there when hiking for an extended amount of
time? Is 3000 to 3500 calories per day considered low? I have done a 28 day
survival course with less than 1500 calories per day but left the trail too
skinny to want to re-live the experience.
