[pct-l] Section I and Snow

Has anyone come through section I lately?  I will be finishing section I and coming down to Sonora Pass around July 2nd or 3rd, and in Schaffer's guide it says to come no earlier than second week in July, that there is a section that is dangerous (possible lethal) when ice is there.  I don't want to pack an ice axe or other ice gear, and judging from the weather this year, and Post Hole great site if I understand it, I would think there is little to no snow on the trail now.  Am I assuming correctly here?
