I'm confused.  It sounds like your strategy would allow you to carry  
your food just fine in a canister in the zones where canisters are  
specifically required by law/regulation.  The TM-Echo stretch is a  
bit long without a resupply at Sonora pass but can be done in 7 days/ 
6 nights by a thru-hiker (i.e. with 6 days of food fitting in your  
canister).
