[pct-l] Oregon Section Hiking

Good morning, 'Liss,

You are correct. Getting to the PCT where it crosses the Cal/Or border can
be a monumental pain. Ironically, there is a Forrest Service road along the
ridge top about ¼ mile north of the border, but unless your ride knows the
area well it's hard to find. The access is usually from a road system out
of Jacksonville or Grants Pass. While it is called an all-weather road, it
could easily be gated at low altitude. Even if the gate is open, the road
crosses the PCT at nearly 6,200 ft. and it will likely be clobbered with
snow - particularly this year.

Even being on a highway, Seiad Valley is not exactly the easiest place to
get a ride to either. For practical purposes, I suggest you start where the
PCT crosses I-5 at Siskiyou Summit. I expect you're anxious to get going,
but this year I recommend you start as late as possible. Starting at the
end of August would be great. September weather is usually superb, and most
of the bugs will have done their thing and expired by then.
