  I hope I am not out of line to be replying to this when I have not read Yogi's book (I do realize I am out of line to have not purchased it yet).
  I found the San Diego AYH hostel to be convenient to my purposes because of the following:
   
  short, easy bus ride from the airport
   
  short walk to:
    
   Ralphs (major grocery store)  
   to the Post Office (mailed my travel clothes and duffel bag)  
   to a drugstore  
   restaurants  
   Harbor  
   train station  
   transit center to catch train to Rural Bus Service to Campo
  Cost about $20, info at www.sandiegohostels.org/downtown.shtml
   
  Question about Yogi's book.  Is there information that would be helpful to a section hiker trying to figure how to reach the trail?
