[pct-l] Crampons and Trail Shoes

Has anyone used Strap-on Crampons with Trail "Shoes".  I.E  not boots?  How
did it work out?  Was there a particular crampon model that made it work?
I am considering a hike in a few weeks that may require some long traverses
along icy slopes.  I prefer to keep my footwear the same on the lower and
upper slopes.
