In addition to the weight question, consider also the potential damage. 

I have seen several cameras die on the trail due to dust or condensation. I've also seen them die when dropped and one die when a bag leaked during a stream crossing. 

I babied my camera to the extreme (bubble wrap sealable envelope inside a padded case), but I still had it cleaned after the hike and there was talc-like dust throughout the mechanism.
