Has anyone here used an alcohol stove at 9000 feet in temperatures of 15-25
degrees?
I'm backpacking up near Mammoth this weekend and need to make a stove
choice.
My main objective is snowshoe in, set up camp and boil two cups of water.
My alternatives.......... solid fuel (no) ........................ a white
gas Svea 123.............. or alcohol.
Thanks
Monty

An alcohol stove will work just fine under those conditions. Shield it from
wind, insolate from snow, and carry maybe a bit more fuel. If you are
melting snow, then for alcohol double your predicted white gas fuel needs
for the trip. The Svea 123 is a grand old stove also for this trip.
