[pct-l] Along the Trail: Cascade Locks

Along the Trail is no more. The Salmon Row Pub, home of great pizza and
Walking Man microbrew, has changed hands and is now called (drum roll):

Pacific Crest Pub and Hostel
500 Wanapa Street
Cascade Locks, OR 97014
541-374-9310

I haven't spoken to the new owners, but the last time I was there the
waitress said the intent was to provide lodging to hiker types. I didn't
ask about packages and I'm not sure why one wouldn't just use the post
office, but you might give them a call and see what's up. The PCT trailhead
spills out quite near this establishment and the entire town is walkable
end-to-end in a few minutes. Many nobo PCT hikers enter Cascade Locks from
the Eagle Creek Trail alternate which involves a couple of miles of paved
"trail" walking from the terminus of the ECT to the commercial area of town.

The major controversy at the moment is whether or not an Indian tribe will
be building a mega-casino in Cascade Locks. It won't happen this year, but
if this comes about the character of this place will change forever. For
better or worse, Cascade Locks may become one of the PCT's biggest party
towns and trail pirates will be the least of your worries.
