Gumby and I started hiking at 8 AM and went on a road (1N37) that goes around the south part of the mountain for the 12 mi from Mission Creek to Onxy. The snow was rock hard ice and even though we had crampons we decided that a smarter thing to do was drop down the Santa Ana River Road (labeled on the map as 1N05, but I think the signs said 2E03). As snow flurries wisped around us we then hiked 1500 feet and 7 miles up the paved road.
SB also makes a good point of the trail being ducked for northbounders rather than SOBO. It was hard to find even in the light going up Whitewater Canyon.
Erik has a INCREDIBLE PCT Atlas out (Gumby had an advanced copy). Where to camp? It's in there. Where is water? It's in there. What is the grade, and does the grade change between trail markers? It's in there. What is the layout of trail towns? It's in there. Every friggin thing the PCT hiker wants is in there, not garbage.

Connected on this list with Gumby and Bivy and our goal was to complete the 42 miles from Onxz Summit to Big Bear. This chunk is in my backyard and is the only Section all the way to Stevens Pass that is missing in my 5 year Section hike.

Gumby and Bivy should get to Onxz sometime late Sunday and THANKS for the organization and the shuttle assistance. 160 miles to FINISH up in NORTHERN Washington -- YEAH.
