The following is from the PCTA website, and the message is dated 5/2/08: 

"The PCT is CLOSED due to the Apache Fire in the San Jacintos near Apache Peak and Fobes Saddle. Hikers please head into town from the Hwy 74 crossing. Devil's Slide is also still closed."

Another site said full containment may occur on Sunday.
