I also just came back from the Grand Canyon.
We did the Tanner New Hance loop....sorry I missed you.
You are so right the ''Grand Canyon'' is a library of time....nothing 
else like it in the world.
I have been to ''Copper Canyon'' (Mexico's Grand Canyon), ''Waimea 
Canyon'' in Hawaii (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific)...all spectacular, 
but none come even close to the grandeur and magnificent beauty of our 
''Grand Canyon.''
I have been hiking it for 28 years and keep coming back for 
more.....like the  JMT  it keeps calling me.
Like a beautiful woman.....''once bitten forever hooked.''
Another great place for a Geologist like you is  ''Death 
Valley''.....another library of time.....been there many times.
