[pct-l] granite gears front loading system

Hey,

My first pack was granite gear front loader (purchased in 2001). everyone thought it was "so cool" and seemed convenient to them. but i'll tell you what-- i just upgraded to a gregory jade and what.a.relief!!! i found the front loading system had just too many buckles (= more weight, more fiddling) and was not that convenient at all (ur not really packing a suitcase). furthermore, when i did topload (for lunch or water filter) it was difficult to jam stuff in, as it was always getting caught on the inside buckles. but perhaps granite gear has resolved this issue (my pack has 3 internal buckles for cynching, then a semi-stretchy cover flap, then 3 MORE buckles for who-knows-what on the outside). all in all, i'd say do not consider it to be more convenient by any means. perhaps a necessary evil for the pack you want, but no bonus for sure.

i'm also no gearhead, so i may be way behind on the times.

see ya out there,
salix

Lesson of that episode (the only one I've ever watched) bring a map and
compass. Incredibly, he never mention them.

That's his M.O. Generally, the point of his shows is what to do if you don't have "survival tools" with you; how to figure things out without without the tools that might have kept you from getting in that situation in the first place. He often gives lessons on how to figure out directions by he signs around you.

When is a good time to start packing the food up to mail to myself? I'm ready now but I was thinking some of it would be stale by the time I get it...like granola and the like....How long does it take usually? I won't be sending myself everything, but I am vegan so most of it for sure, as it will be difficult to find that kind of stuff on the trail I'm sure. I know mailing it in the original packaging, until I recieve it,? is better too to keep it from getting stale or whatever, but there are some things that I won't be able to do that with unless I want to carry the weight...and NO! lol
