I'm ashamed to admit that if you include my lost salary+benefits (and  
by the way, I'm now underemployed so that loss was permanent), gear I  
had to buy and all the other stuff, my hike, which only went to  
Dunsmuir, was easily in the 5-figure range. If you don't include my  
lost salary+benies, it's still significantly higher than most figures  
quoted here. More like $10 a mile! The town stops were extremely  
expensive. About $250 each time. And gear. Oh my!

Next time around I'm staying in churches or campgrounds and doing a  
little panhandling with my cardboard sign. Some dumpster-diving for  
resupply would be in order as well. And I'm putting a sun shower in  
my bounce bucket.
