Say, Diane....what do you mean by:
1. ''You secretly wish to stay that way""?....I'm always that way
2. ''You swear off consumerism''..............Hey, I like consumerism.....I like my beer, I like
my ''Ripple''(I only drink the finest wines), the movies, go out to eat, travel and hike with my
UL hiking gear etc., etc., etc.,....all made possible by consumerism.

BTW, Diane, the computer you are using to communicate with us is a product of consumerism...I
guess you have not completely rejected consumerism.

Without consumerism we would be back in the ''Caveman'' days.
I don't see many hikers in loin cloth on the trail.
Many ''hard core'' hikers, like Switchback, take consumerism to the extreme with their silk
underwear, designer showcase hiking wardrobe, hand free umbrella and reflector tape.
Seems to me Consumerism is well received and embraced by the hiking community.

LONG LIVE CONSUMERISM!!!!

...I think the most dangerous trail of all is the PCT. Why? Because it
has the potential to ruin you. It haunts your dreams before and
after, you wrack your brains for all your life to try to figure out
how to make your life around it (rather than make a living). Before
you go you spend way too much money. After you come back you swear
off consumerism and stop contributing to the economy. During you
become unshaven, unclean, and despicable. When you return, you
secretly wish to stay that way....
