[pct-l] 2009 pack thru Forester Pass

Does anyone know of the alternate route for stock instead of going over
Forester Pass, Glen Pass, Pinchot & Mather Passes - looks like I will be
hitting the area mid June and am very concerned about snow at that time.
Could skip it and come back later in the summer after taking the rest of the
trail north but prefer not to. Any suggestions?

I thought I was the jokester on the PCT-L. Obviously, I am wrong. :-)

where it was originally envisioned. Sometimes it's to avoid highly popular
areas - such as Mt. San Gorgonio. Others it was an inability (or lack of
will?) to acquire the necessary easements. A classic example of this is why
the PCT goes over the San Felipe Hills 23 miles without water when it should
have gone over forested Volcan Mountain to the west. The irony is that much
of Volcan has transferred from private ranches to conserved open space
since. On a smaller scale, the trail sometimes makes small detours to avoid
sensitive areas, such as rare plants or archeological sites.

Switchback replies: Also, the current PCT route goes past the Clinton C.
Clarke tree. This was discovered by Switchback several years ago near
Warner Springs Resort --- on the PCT Warner Springs Loop. It is one of the
largest Cottonwood trees in the world and along the PCT. It is in a
campground at site #22. Warner Springs Monty is the Guardian of this part
of the PCT, including this biological wonder. It is speculated that ancient
early man rituals were performed at its base. Also, there seems to be
scratches of Mutant Saber Tooth Mountain Lions on its trunk.

Which many PCT hikers don't see, since they leave WS via the highway. As
I passed by it, I was unaware of the significance of that moment.

I didn't see him there.

I missed those too.

Fortunately for me, someone was camped near the tree. The route through
the campground at that point was a little confusing. Said camper pointed
the way, and I walked by totally unaware that I was walking past such a
significant biological wonder.

My understanding is that (Lime Green) Jellybean, Jeannie Zortman, is
planning to be in charge of the DVD. Sleepwalker and Overdose also had
plans on some sort of project, separate or otherwise. All three are still
finishing the trail though...it is only 9/20 after all. I'll make sure that
they are in touch with each other, with last year's DVD guru Cloudspotter,
and with this list if that matters. But i don't think you'll hear much from
any of them for a couple of weeks still.

I have been in touch with Jellybean. There is so much work to be
done, it is certainly a job for more than one person. Since I did not
thru hike this year (I section hiked this year) Jellybean will control
the editorial and artistic content. I am collecting the hiker
database, photos and music and will make copies of the dvd for mailing.

I look forward to working with her.
