Here is a way to use Google to search for the spot:

site:mailman.backcountry.net/pipermail/pct-l spot

notice the Google keyword - site:   
then the place to search - mailman.backcountry.net/pipermail/pct-l
next comes the words to search for spot

you will get the posts that way.
