I emailed the list owner at the top of the digest, and got the following
bounce:

*Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
* *
    pct-l-owner at backcountry.net

*
*Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient
domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further
information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server
returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 <pct-l-owner at backcountry.net>: Recipient address
rejected: User unknown in local recipient table (state 14).
*
This is my original digest format suggestion:

Brick? I think you manage list. When the digest first opens up in my email,
I only see about 4 topics due to my toolbars, etc. What do you think about
moving your administrative messages to the bottom of the list, while leaving
the please edit subject line and trim contents at the start. This is what I
call administrative messages:

*Send Pct-l mailing list submissions to
       pct-l at backcountry.net

To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit
       http://mailman.backcountry.net/mailman/listinfo/pct-l
or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to
       pct-l-request at backcountry.net

You can reach the person managing the list at
       pct-l-owner at backcountry.net*
That way people would see about 12 more topics at first glance.
