Mammoth Mountain is on the edge if the Long Valley Caldera. Google it for more 
info. In brief, this feature is not related to the Mendocino Triple Junction, it 
is not a subduction zone volcano, and the last major eruption was about 760,000 
years ago. Just about any of the CA community colleges that serve the eastern 
Sierra offer field trips that teach you the whole story and are great fun.
