[pct-l] Report from Firefly

Hi all,

To follow up on what Girlscout just posted, I just got off the phone with Firefly and yes, they are SAFE, but they were close enough to see the flames. Thankfully they had the flooded field to give them such a good barrier. She was calling from Chester since phones are still out at home. She wants everyone to know that they are available to help hikers.

Here is the information she asked me to pass along:

The fire burned all the way down to the creek, crossed it, crossed the highway, and back up the other side toward the rim. Firefighters backburned, flooded, and whatever else they could to contain it, and things are finally improving. The road is now reopened.

The trail has been burned in the following places:

- from Subway Cave to *at least* Cache 44, and possibly further north. (sounds like the outhouse at
Cache 44 was the 1 structure that burned!)

- at the Fish Hatchery, though the structures were saved

- at the Fall River Road crossing, where the big white footprints are

Firefly said that you CAN walk all the way north to the Hat Creek Resort, though the PCTA site says Twin Bridges (and her message to GS said Drakesbad). The resort was closed and evacuated, so they can't provide their normal services in helping you get to the Hideaway, but hopefully they'll return by tomorrow.

Phone and power are still out at the Hideaway, so you'll have to walk there from the resort, but ask any of the neighbors - they will point you in the right direction. If you can get to the Hideaway, Firefly will help you get a ride north to Burney Falls where you can get back on trail.

- Chipmunk
