I agree - doing what you like.  In 2006 a thru named Phoenix died in his sleep in the Smokies a shelter or 3 south of Clingman's Dome.  I was a day behind him but had never met him, but it was sad news for lots of us.  Three months later in Maine another thru who was there that night (Souer Hawk or Mr. Rogers, I think) told this story.  As they wake up, somebody notices the guy doesn't respond.  They check further and find he is dead.  They start thinking about who to notify and how and realize nobody there knows his real name or address.  So they get his pack and start tearing through it, trying to find some id.  At this point, another hiker comes back into the shelter from the privy and yells "What the f*** are you doing to my stuff?".  They had the wrong pack.

There's very little information about this right now. Don't know if this
is a thru-hiker or a local. I feel bad for the hikers who found him.
That could be traumatic. Based on the description, this is probably in
the area between Big Mosquito Lake and the Rd. 23 crossing. http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/kgw_081409_news_skamania_hiker_dead.dd806ce7.html

That's the way I want to go too.  Doing what I love at 80!
