Need a ride from in the AM from Tolumne Meadows on Aug 30 back to my car at Mammoth Lakes trailhead. I can drop off folks from Mammoth south if anyone needs a lift?

I will be hiking the JMT/PCT from Kearsage Pass to Mammoth Lakes next week and I still have a few Q's
1) Should I take a headnet this time of year in the Sierras?
2) Does TP have to go in the bear can too?
3) Are there any trails that branch off the PCT and go back south to meet the PCT again? I may have to double back halfway and it would be cool to see different landscapes on the way back.
4) Is it ok to park my car at the trailhead in Independence for a few days?

1. Probably you will be past the worst of the mosquito problems. There may
be a few pockets at some areas.
2. No. Please do pack out used stuff.
3. Not near Kearsarge that I can think of. There's alternatives south of
the Postpile (ie, hiking up Cascade drainage rather than the JMT, coming in
via Duck Pass, etc)
4. Yes. Parking is limited (and competitive!). Do not keep smellies in
the car (very active bear area). Bear boxes at trailhead to store stuff,
but heavily used.

There?s usually a hiker box just inside the door of the Post Office. The
P.O. is so small if a box is there you?ll see it. I haven't been there this
summer, but that should be the first place to look.

No, there isn't a lot of traffic on that road, but the locals know of the PCT and hikers
wanting to go down to Etna for resupply... You'll get a ride 'soon enough' especially if
you get to the summit either early in the morning or, probably better yet, late afternoon...

I passed Showers a few days ago.? Swimming across it works pretty good, but I forgot my pack (and boots & clothes) so I had to go back and try the trail the next time.
