IMHO, the impact of thru-hikers on the trail is minimal. There just
aren't that many of us.

While the herd may stress local stores
(oh-my-god-we-ran-out-of-ramen!) and trail angels, quite honestly,
most of the trail would benefit from lots more traffic.

The popular areas, like San Jacinto, Rae Lakes, Castle Crags, Feather
River, all see way more weekenders each week than the total number of
Thru-Hikers for a whole season.

Trail management has more to do with clearing brush & dead falls,
repairing trail tread, protecting easements, mitigating OHV use, and
such. Thru hikers just aren't an issue.
