As you discovered Shelly, most fears or perceptions of what we, as individuals, are capable of, are unfounded and self imposed.  The only way to truely conquer them is to face them head on with some grit and determination and prove to yourself (as you did) that they're but wispy phantoms of your own immagination.
 
Congrats on your hiking break through.  
 
When you cross the border into Canada after 2655 miles or so, it'll rank up there as one of the best days in your life.
