To E A, and all,

I recently bought my second Montbell UL Down inner jacket, to use for layering with my original one in very cold weather (mountain climbing). I think they are the greatest! I used a Montane wind jacket for my PCT hike but it only had a 1/2 zipper, too hard to regulate temperature with that. It was stolen and I then bought the Marmot Ion windshirt and am very happy with that. It has a hood and a zippered chest pocket, very handy for a camera or mp3 player. And it's only $55, and 3 oz.

I did have an old North Face rain jacket for Oregon and Washington, but that was the extent of my cold weather gear on the PCT, layered with a short and a long sleeve Duo Fold T-shirts. I never wore the down jacket hiking, was too hot, used that with the others as needed in camp. It was plenty for me and I get cold easily, although with the
increased activity of the thru-hike I seemed to stay warmer than normal.
