I'm jealous of anyone who has seen a bear...all the hiking and backpacking that I do alone and never once have I seen one...NOT FAIR!

You have been jibed. It's the most wonderful experience. I have seen about 8 within my life time and treasure every sighting. Here in extreme northern CA they are rather small, for the best part, so I've not had the pleasure of seeing what might be larger ones in WA, etc.
