[pct-l] The parental aspect of hiking

Times they are a changing. I started camping with my parents when I was a baby.
When I was 13, my parents would drop a friend and me off with our 22's in the local
hills for a weekend hunting trips. By the time I was 16, week long solo vacations
were common place. You can't expect a parent to just let their child go if they have
not built a base of trust and experience first.
